How can I re-install Microsoft Word 2003 on my computer?

I have everything else from microsoft such as powerpoint,excel and everything else but now word. I went to have something done with my computer and now I don't have it at all-microsoft word 2003. Do I need to buy the soft ware to re install it? It just doesn't appear with all of the other microsoft office products. I have to write a paper so will it make any difference using microsoft works instead of microsoft word 2003? Please help.......................................

How can I re-install Microsoft Word 2003 on my computer?
Lets try 2 things:

1. Perhaps you have only deleted the shortcuts. Goto Start -%26gt; Run and type "winword" and hit enter.

2. Perhaps you have some corruption etc. Goto Start -%26gt; Control Panel -%26gt; Add remove programs and then find Office 2003. Use the remove option. Don't worry, it will give you the repair option. Hopefully you have the installer files locally cached,otherwise you will need the CD.

Where do i find Microsoft's web-based equivalent to Google Earth?

The other day one of my students showed me a map he had found on a microsoft website, that looked just like google earth, except that he was able to get images that were much higher resolution than my normal Google Earth can get.

I know this: The site had a Windows circle emblem and a bluish color theme. The site also had the word "Virtual" in its name, such as microsoft virtual maps. It was web-based, unlike google maps. It had the navigation indicators in the upper left corner of the view.

Now whenever i try to find that site again myself, it always sends me to the stupid corporate Microsoft site that tells me everything i could ever want to know about setting up microsoft virtual maps for my own business, but it doesn't actually show me any place online to just USE THE PROGRAM!

I just want the link to the site where i can type in my street address, and get the microsoft virtual map for that location, where i can then zoom way in and get a very hi-res image of my location.

This is some sources I have listed I'm not sure if training is available for you in Mumbai but, I'm sure there is something here for you. Have you heard of the E-Learning? E-Learning gives you the convenience to study at home at your own rate and you can take the course as much as you want. I used E-Learning when I started and I was very impressed with it. I do believe it would cost you money though I'm not sure how much since my company paid for my training. I hope this helps you out and good luck.

Microsoft possible takeover of yahoo?

Microsoft is offering to buy yahoo for 44 billion but yahoo refused, and now Microsoft is going hostile.

My question is, why can't Microsoft just buy all the shares on the market as a regular share holder would, to take over the company?

Is there a reason why they can't just buy all the shares on the market since Yahoo is public?

Not nearly enough to even make a dent let alone a takoeover. What do you think would happen to the price of Yahoo stock if everyone knew that Microsoft wanted to buy every available share? I need help, im down to my last breath with this crap, I recently had a problem with a virus trojan byte verify and trojan downloader, i have the purchased norton and it resolved the issue

I had a few things malfunction including the secuirty center and updates for microsoft

I got the security center up and working but i cant get the microsoft updates to work with any program, it gives me an error message Error number: 0x80072EE7

Reply:Sounds like you're having trouble due to not being able to connect. Could be a firewall issue, or it could be remnants of your virus that changed some settings on your connection.

Microsoft provides a troubleshooting page for your specific issue. Run through it and see if it will help.
Reply:omg, my husband had the same thing happen. Wound up calling in a professional to clean off everything, then had to reload everything. It was such an ordeal. The microsoft help line was useless. Hope you have an easier time than we did. Got it to work, but it cost close to a thousand to have it fixed. When all was said and done, we were sorry we didn't replace the computer with a new one. He lost three days of work, data, and still has a machine that doesn't work the way it is supposed to... for instance, who backs up their contact list on outlook? Even that was lost....

On my Dell Inspiron E1405 Laptop, I have Microsoft Outlook installed. Even though I have it installed, I cannot set up my email, because I do not know how. Does anyone know how to link my Yahoo! Reply:Unless you have are paying for the Advanced Yahoo mail, you can't do it through Outlook/Entourage.

If you do have the advanced service, go to your "options" menu and there are directions there on how to set up Outlook/Entourage for your e-mail address.
Reply:You have to either have Mail Plus(paid) or use ypops in order to set up your email on Outlook.
Reply:You need POP3 address's in order to do it, which you have to pay for... They're not very expensive but pointless when you can just use hotmail or yahoo for free.

I'm using Microsoft Office Publisher to write an E-Book, I have used hyperlink to link other Microsoft Office applications such as Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Excel and PDFs and I have saved it as a web page, filter.

it's works fine on my computer, I can open all the links I put on it through hypelink but when I tranfer it using my USB to a differnt computer with all the document it gives me a error massage saying Unable to open, Cannot open the specific file.

When I copy it to a differnt computer I make sure that I copy all the other application (PowerPoint, Excel and PDFs) with it, all in 1 file but it still gives me a error message. please help deadline for this work is tomorrow.

Any help will be highly Appreciated

Similar to what the first poster said, you need to have the specific computer listed in the case that it is a network file. If it isn't a network file, then the other files are called using their directory address. In this case, the files have to either be in the same directory on each computer or you have to re-link the files on each computer or device (USB drive) so that the directory is the same.

An example directory is:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\ My E-Book.pub

In the case of the above directory, your files are stored there and thats where you look for them. Relating it to real world, its like if you had a friend that lived in a mobile home. If he is in a Mobile home park you can find him by the address he is always at, but if you look to find him on the road you need a new address to locate him at. Hope this makes sense.
Reply:As you have moved the files to another location the original links refer to when they were on your original computer. The path/drive has obviously now changed so you need to update the links. They are trying to link to a file on another computer which it cnanot reach unless you are networked, which I guess you are not.
Reply:You may need to include the machine name of the specific PC in the hyperlink. That is, the PC that you have transferred the file to.

Frustration City. I have tried a "system restore" and a full uninstall/install of XP SP2. Still no sound but the CMOS beep. Nothing on MSDN to help. Beyond a complete format and reinstall, involving reinstall of all my apps (on a 80 GB HDD), I don't know what to do. There are three files involved: kmixer.sys and wdmaudio.inf and dmusic. Twoof the tress come up with a Search,,,but no wdmaudio. I wonder what that is all about and how to fix this mess. Any help will be appreciated.
Reply:Hi, I had a similar problem. Got it fixed by doing a system restore... infact, just 10 min back.

I have dual boot system with XP and Suse 10.3 linux. The problem started after I installed some multimedia %26amp; flash software in my Suse 10.3 OS. Once I came back to XP, although my sound card was working fine, songs were not being played. These two (Microsoft kernel wave audio mixer and Microsoft kernel audio splitter) showed up as plug-and-play devices under device manager -%26gt; sound, video and game controllers.

Once I did system restore, the sound has been restored and these two have disappeared from the device manager.

Hope it will work for you as well.

I work in sales so I am not an IT professional, however, I do love to learn and I am interested in technology. I have been looking at becoming Microsoft Certified but I want to focus on Office and maybe some networking. However I want my main focus to be on Office because that is what I use most often. And I have not plans to go into networking or any other IT field. After reviewing the material on the Microsoft site, I must say it is rather confusing. Is there a certification for Office? And if so what is it and how do I find it. I know I could just study the materials but I would like to receive certification if it is available. I just deleted Microsoft Office, and I guess Microsoft Word was in there (It wasn't intentional to delete it). Right now my computer is using some 97 writing thing. Does anyone know how to get back Microsoft Word 03 or a more recent one for free? Or do I have to pay money to get it?

Previous poster is correct... try a System Restore first (click start-%26gt;all programs-%26gt;accessories-%26gt;system tools-%26gt;System Restore) directions are simple. If System Restore doesn't work, now would be a good time to try out Open Office....an open-source (developed for free!) alternative that is completely compatible with Microsoft Office, right down to Power Point. Any file created with Microsoft Word would be able to be opened by Open Office and vice versa.

Open Office is your best bet if System Restore fails. Good luck!

If you remeber what day you deleated it, you can restore your computer back to that date.

right click one of the pictures %26gt;format picture%26gt; layout%26gt; infront of text

now you can move it anywhere!
Reply:Try putting one of the pics as a water mark and inserting the second pic as you would normally.
Reply:Make sure each of your images have the "above text" wrap setting. Just right-click on each image and find the wrap part.

Then, make sure you know how to order your images, from bottom to top. Right-click on each image again, and choose the right ordering, so that each image is on top of the other in the order you want.

This can be done from the "drawing" toolbar... to view the drawing toolbar click on View %26gt;%26gt; Toolbars %26gt;%26gt; Drawing.

On that toolbar click on draw %26gt;%26gt; point to Order %26gt;%26gt; and move forward or backward...

You can also try righ-clicking on the picture%26gt; and from the toolbar for pictures "format" %26gt;%26gt; Layout%26gt; then choose forward or behind text...

You can try simply dragging the images on top of one another. You may need to set one as a background first.

The best thing to do if you are trying to lay an image on top of another image is to use a program like Adobe Photoshop and merge them together into one picture... and then import them into your document.

Reply:MSWord can not make this alone. This will require another picture editor to make it happens. Using photoshop, you load first picture on first layer, then open up another layer for next picture. Turn both layers on, and adjust the transparency to the degree you like as your background. Save the the file in either gif or jpg file. The file can be imported to MSWord as background. You may us any other photo/picture editors whatever you prefer.

Yes and no. If you save it as a 03 file, no. If you save it as an 07 files yes and no. If you download an update for 03, it will read 07 files.

I received a computer request from Microsoft to validate my systems, and I can see why Microsoft wants to ensure that users' systems are authentic, but I am not sure that it is advantageous to me. I have a Dell computer and the computer came with Windows XP and Office, so I am sure that my systems are valid. However, once you agree to Microsoft's validation procedure, the process stays on your computer, transmits information to the company, can never be deleted, and anytime you download anything from Microsoft, you will have to go through the validation process again. Are most of you authorizing Microsoft to do this? Please let me know.

You must understand that the process is completely voluntary. There is no reason to join, or not to join.

The scan simple ensures that you have valid Microsoft Software, and by validating your system you are entitled to free updates from Microsoft and technical help.

I always let Microsoft validate my system. It keeps it save and allows me to download key needed applications.

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS from M$ OFfice 2007!

If you use a laptop, you lose 2 inches of document space at the top of the screen due to M$'s decision to change all menu's to Icons.

And usually when you upgrade from one version of Office to another, the Installer will either automatically remove the previous version, or ask you if you want to keep the previous version.

If you feel the need to upgrade, have you looked at OpenOffice? (www.openoffice.org). IT reads/writes Word, Excel and Powerpoint. and you can install it on as many computers as you'd like.

Microsoft is offering a free retrofit to owners of the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel game controller due to overheating issues. Is Microsoft going to release a new controller, or are they stopping manufacturing until they can fix the overheating issues?

Microsoft has always had a dirty reputation of stealing from Apple. Remember the Windows 3.1 OS which was released in the early 90s, suddenly made the whole world think Bill Gates is a genius for making the first Graphical user-friendly PC operating system? Bullshit! Microsoft Works missing, Can I get it back? I don't even know if this is hardware or software?!?

Can anyone help? I have Windows XP Home Edition, Version 5.1 with Service Pack 1 (copywrite 1981-2001) Microsoft Corp. I was using Microsoft Works a LOT. Yesterday it froze, I rebooted, and poof! Mocrosoft Works was there, the pages with the menu titles, but NO MENU details anywhere. Basically, the page was blank. On add or remove programs I clicked Microsoft Works and it asked if I wanted it repaired. Clicked that and got an error. Asked if I wanted to delete it, so I did. I used Start and Run to install C:\bundle\Works\works6.msi. It DOES install until the very last part of the install. Then I get the following: Error 1309 Error reading from file: C:\bundle\Works\PFiles\MSWorks\wkgdcach.... Verify that the file exists and that you can access it. I went to Search and only file I have is the install file. What can I do? I don't really want to restore, takes days with updates, etc. Any help appreciated. I'm not "puter" savy (sp) so please try to keep it simple. THANX

The original problem was probably with the task launcher specifically. If you go to C: - Program Files - Microsoft Works and try to run the programs directly such as WksWP and Wksdb, etc they should have still worked. Now that you've done an uninstall, however, they will probably not be there. If you have a backup or restore disk, the complete installation may be included there. If not, then a restore is probably the only option. I've had to do this as well. The updates and software downloads, retweaking - all very annoying. Wish there was more I could do. Good luck.

It is pretty unfair the Microsoft is trying to make money out of everything that they make. I am starting a complaint to the xbox live that xbox live should be free because we already paid for everything else, at least the xbox live should be free. Sony Playstation 3 is a really big company so they don't worry about the playstation 3 online alot because they make profit no matter what. Microsoft is losing money quickly because of all the people complaint the first time the 360 came out because of the frozen screen and ring of death. People were so piss off even more when the warranty expired that quickly and people didn't know they have warranties because they didn't sign for anything. So people have to pay to get their 360 fix, but Microsoft found out that alot of people are not happy so they refund every repair cost back to the costumer and now they try to charge us for the xbox live for the profit they lost. I have recently begun a project experimenting with Microsoft codename 'Longhorn' which is a o/s Microsoft were working on before they decided to ditch it.

I have got the o/s up and running and its quite impressive.Its like a hybrid of XP and Vista.

Does anyone know of a site or useful forum which offers any support ?

Microsoft offers no support as its not recognized as one of their o/s as they ditched it.

I would like to implement IE7 and WMP11 amongst other things. I have tried installing it from the MS download site to no avail.

I only seem to be able to find IE7 for XP. Does anyone know where I can find a download for IE7 Vista as I feel this may work.

It seems to be running IE6 at the moment, hence I am using firefox at present.

Please if anyone could help with this and any other useful info. it would be much appreciated.

Longhorn was just Vista in it's earliest stages. It was based on xp's source code so the xp version of ie7 is probably more likely to work than a vista version. Microsoft gave up and just restarted everything, and came up with Vista. Microsoft worked on longhorn just prior to their release of XP and it was expected to be released in 2003. Something i ike better than IE7 and WMP11 is the latest version of Mozilla Firefox and VLC media player. Mozilla Firefox is less vulnerable to spyware and VLC can play many video formats that WMP can't. VLC will play anything, including DVD's without having to install any extra codecs. I just read that microsoft is already working on Vista's successor,codenamed Blackcome and Vienna, now called Windows 7. But yeah, those 2 programs I mentioned are definitely worth a try
Reply:Well you certainly can pick your battles.... The mere fact that MS came out with new versions of everything because vista isn't compatible with anything else makes it that much tougher.

Instead of going with IE7 for Vista which I don't think will work, try a good third party browser, i.e. firefox. Windows would be so much better if it came with that instead of IE anyway.

I say if your going to frankenstein an OS take the best from all over and try not to limit yourself to what MS released.

But just to let you know, if you use firefox microsoft word will not work, and you may experience problems with other microsoft office applications. I did this and ended up having to uninstall firefox, then I could not get the internet and a system restore would not bring IE back, so I had to clear my hard drive and reinstall windows. So if you need microsoft word do not use firefox.

apparently you did something wrong. MS word has nothing to do with the browsers. they have no way of even conflicting since they are two separate programs that do totally different things. also if you had IE problems, all you had to do is go into the add/remove programs, select delete and then a window comes up with the repair option. this was your solution.

I have heard that every harddrive has what is called ghost files and the way it was explaned to me is take a blank HDD that is 10GB add windows that is 1GB so you would have 9GB left but it really don't come out that way and the extra lost space is where the ghost file are kept and only if you write all zeros to the HDD will you ever get rid of them .

Microsoft office document imaging?

i used to use microsoft document imaging to print documents to my computer from internet explorer as TIF files. but a day ago or too, there was no option as selecting it as a printer in the print list. usually i just choose microsoft document imaging as the printer in the print list and then i had to give a name of file to save it.

i tried to fix it by clicking add printer in the printer and faxes wizard. it has a port called "Microsoft Office Document Imaging". but when i click it, i have to select an actual printer from some company to add it. can someone help me? i really need it

Is there any advantage to running a program like Second Copy instead of Microsoft Backup for Vista? Second Copy is a exact copy while Microsoft separates into many folders. I already have a license for second copy, but I'm not sure if it is an advantage to use it. It looks cleaner, but maybe Microsoft is doing a better job of copying the files I need.

The backup software within Vista is surprisingly good, much better than in previous versions of Windows. It can back up only selected files, like documents and stuff, which is what I believe you're talking about, but it can also do an image-based backup as well, like second copy does, which can fully restore a hard drive, including operating system. I don't know much about second copy, but if I were you, I'd play around with both, and just see what you're more comfortable with. I've used Norton Ghost and Acronis True Image for a long time, but I've been messing around with Vista's backup, and I really like it so far.

OEM versions are originally intended to be bundled with hardware and supplied through the OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer -- like when you buy a shiny new Dell laptop for example. There are tons of price variations for Windows Vista for all the different flavors.

Hello, I have a question to ask today here. Someone in my family decided to try "Medical billing and coding". The program required use of microsoft office, which we did not have. Also I personally run a different operating system alltogether. Microsoft office 2003 would have cost us about 200 - 400 standard edition. As a result the member of the house could not finish the course. Because we are on a tight budget at the moment. So, we paid about 1,000 dollars for the course. The member did not know they would be required to use Microsoft products. Anyone that has any idea in law, because I do not that much. Can you tell me if it would be possible, and just, and an inexpensive way to bring Microsoft to court for justice? They afterall made this requirment "Excel, word , etc" It was forced upon us. To get the money back as an Antitrust settlement. It is not really correct we paid "and still paying out" money for nothing. It is not institutes fault for this standard in offices.

You don't jhave a leg to stand on. You neglected to mention who offered the course or whether they let you know in advance of taking the course that you needed this specific Microsoft software.

You might be able to get a refund from whoever offered the course IF you could somehow prove they didn't inform you in advance that you needed to use Microsoft products for the course. You won't get an antitrust settelement from Microsoft, that much I am sure of.

Am I the only one that keeps installing these updates from Microsoft? I try to be informed about what I'm downloading, but the description usually just reads "a security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to gain control of your computer." It seems to me Microsoft will never find all the "security issues" and I have years of dowloaded code a-la-Microsoft sitting on my computer doing god knows what. Should I stop dowloading this stuff? I already have Norton Internet Security installed (which I pay a ridiculous yearly fee for) and my firewall is always turned on.)

Microsoft updates?
Keep installing updates. They discover new security flaws in their system all the time, and patch them. Hackers can take advantage of people's lacking of installing recent updates and can exploit their computers. Besides, you can set your computer to get Automatic Updates and it would not bother you at all.

Norton is useful for trying to block or get rid of stuff that is able to get through the system anyways. That's how I would describe it.

Reply:The way I have mine set is to only notify me that updates are availiable, but to not download them automaticaly. Then I can check to be sure I get just the ones I want. I then click on "custom", and after the updates have been downloaded I look them over to see which ones I want, then disconnect from the internetnet, disable firewall and anti-virus program, and then install the updates I want, and click "Don't tell me again" on the ones I don't want, and then re-enable the firewall and anti-virus programs before reconnecting to the net. I use all free protection programs.
Reply:If you copy the title of the security update and put it in the Microsoft search box you will get a listing for the Description of the Security update. You can also get the download site if the update doesn't get downloaded or installed this way.

Reply:I know what you mean. I turned off the automatic updates on my personal desktop about 9 months ago for this very reason. It seemed as though every time I started my computer, I had to update, let it restart and then do what I needed to do. Guess what? Since I have turned off AU, it works fine. I use Avast for virus protection, have a router and haven't had a problem. I never use IE for surfing (strong proponent of Mozilla). I run Lavasoft adaware once per week and have an average of 1 item per month to deal with. It's usually a tracking cookie with a low scary-factor.

On the other hand, on my laptop from work, AU are turned on automatically (I can't change it). I lost almost 2 hours of work on Friday because of all the updates and restarts and crap. I really don't know how necessary it is, but I agree it makes me wonder what all those updates are doing and how much space are they taking? Once they have been applied, can they be removed from my machine (going through My Computer and accessing Windows Subdirectory). Why can't they be a little more specific than the standard crap explanations they give in their updates? Aren't we the customer and they are the supplier?

Regarding this mail i just want to tell you that what the main purpose of sending of these types of mails..... the main purpose of sending these types of mails is that the coders (hackers) mainly want to transfer account or money from one place to another , the mail indicates the fields for normal user to be field such as Name, Address, Location etc....

if a user fulfill the information which is asked in the mail, then it is received by hackers and as they start transfering the money, they required the information to be passed in the form and unfortunately they use your name and location etc... you send to the respective mail addresses... and according to cyber laws you were the cyber criminal .... and this is what we dont want to be.... in our whole life....

So Kindly delete as you receive such type of mails or same ... as they are scams.. but if you think that it should be the nice thing as you are having lottery or something like that then please mail to ambessies or high commissions and let them know about what it is... they will tell you....

I downloaded the free trail of Microsoft Office... After 2 Months, the thing uninstall by itself. I needed Microsoft Office again but I have no time to buy it so I install the free trail again. It lasted for 2 Months. After 2 months, it stopped working but cannot be removed from my computer. I bought the full version of Microsoft Office but I have to remove the old one. Every time I try to uninstall, the thing say that it cannot be uninstalled. But I got the full version already and I need to used it. How can I uninstall the old one?

Reply:If you are trying to un-install it from the add/remove programs there is a chance that some parts of it are already gone. In this case you will have to manually uninstall all traces of it. First go to Start, Run, and type in Msconfig. On the start-up tab uncheck anything that may show up for office if anything does. Then check the running processes, by using Alt+Ctrl+Del keys and see if there is anything running that relates to office. Do a search for any folders or files that are from office. Those you have to delete manually. Also run a registry checker to remove all entries for office. Thendefrag your disk and look to see that office is gone from your add/remove programs.If it is, you should now be able to load your new copy.

Reply:it can't be uninstalled, because it is running when u start up computer... ctrl-alt-delete... and stop runnign the program, then uninstall the program.

other option, you can download some trial until software and then uninstall the program.

or reintall trial version, when it ask for serial number, enter the paid one, and it will become fulll version.

I had microsoft WORD, and now when i upgraded some things, via microsoft.com, all i get it Microsoft Viewer.

This does NOT allow me to make editing changes, so I cannot make any corrections.

Why did this happen??

How can i fix this, and/or find the old WORD on my computer???

Go to start program, press all programs and then go to accessories and go to system tools on the drop down and go to restore systems now and then click next, choose a date prior to when you lost it, put date before you lost it and click next. Wait and it will shut down and your word will be restored. You can also go to control panel and add Microsoft word and just download it again. The first way may take out your upgrades but you will have your word back. This is a good way to get it back.
Reply:Did you have a licensed copy of Microsoft Word? I know that some of their new updates checks to see if you have valid copies.

Take a closer look at your hard drive, it's probably still there somewhere.

No legal way to do that....but you could take your document to the library. Most public libraries have computers that have Word installed and you can use them for free. This will at least get you by until you can figure out where your install disks are or have the money to purchase new ones.

Microsoft Office Document Imaging.... Error with Office Service Pack 3... is there a known fix??

I'm trying to assist an employee who uses the Microsoft Document Imaging tool to print and send files to other clients who don't have MS Word or Excel installed. The problem we get is, whenever clicking on the file menu in the document Imaging software, we receive an error message:

AppName: mspview.exe MSPView Failure. Apparently, there is a known issue with Microsoft Office Service Pack 3 causing the problem, as this occurs only when SP3 is installed. This occurs only when viewing a .MDI file in the document imaging application. The error message causes the application to close completely.

The problem we have with this is, this employee already has several files in the .MDI format that he works with. Before he has me convert them all to .PDF (which would probably be the best solution), we was wondering if there was any known fix for this problem. Dont try searching google or support.microsoft.com, as there is very little relevant info google, and absolutely nothing on MS Technet.

Maybe instead of using a .mdi file, you can save it as a .tiff file. It is still a tagged image, compatible with more (and by more i mean less recent) releases of Microsoft Office, and I believe you can still import them into a .pdf file. The last source gives you step-by-step instructions on how, in six Microsoft Office 2003 programs including Word and Excel, to save a document as a .tiff file.

Right click on the document ment then look for "Open With......" You should see a list of programs for it. If word isn't in that list look for it with that "choose program" tab. Hope that solves your problem

Ok, so im writing books- and my spellcheck doesnt work. i have it programmed to work, and the options are set, but say if i type in this: "jhfnjs fjhs" it says that its a word. There's no little red underlining under the mispelled word. Or say if i type in a fictional name "Juriyala" for example, it says its right, when i know for a fact, it is not. So is there anyone that can help me get my spellcheck back!? i hate writing with no spellcheck- makes things alot harder! i even called the microsoft works number, and they didnt have an phone recorded options that help with microsoft word works. No it won't unless you tell it to. In the installer as you go through it will ask you if you want to override or something like that. Just choose the one that most looks like it would install it seperatley. I have the office 2007 trial and it works alongside my office 2003 install. i can still access both of them.

Reply:If you perform an automatic setup, it will delete and replace your existing office. Choose the custom option and specify that it is not to replace the current office. You will also want to choose a different directory to install it too

Microsoft R Works 8.0?

I looking into buying a laptop...upgrading to Microsoft(R) Works Suite 2006 includes Word or Microsoft(R) Office Home and Student 2007 is pretty expensive. (The former is 78$ and the latter is 147$)

How will it work with the included Works 8.0? I'm obviously not very computer savy, so user friendly is a plus. I have Microsoft Office Student and Teacher 2003 on my other computer, would Works 8.0 be a step down? And which would function better with Vista, or is that even a factor?

Works Suite is a huge step down from the Office Suite in functionality and features (not to mention the included applications). If you cannot afford to purchase the Office Suite, then download OpenOffice.org or Star Office, both of which are free and are compatible with the Microsoft Office formats.
Reply:I agree with the other comment. Works is a really cheap and aggravating version. I've had compatibility issues going from Works to Word and vice versa in the past and I doubt it's any better. Many of the features of Word are not available in Works. Home and Student 2007 was made especially for Vista (although it works on XP as well). Hi, my husband just bought me a laptop, a sony vaio, and it has Vista, I'm wondering if anyone knew if microsoft office 2004 is compatible with Vista. I have it on my old xp, a compaq pesario, and I bought the program and all, not so long ago, about a year ago. And I'm wanting to put it on my vista, and I don't want to buy 2008 or w/e since I just bought 2004. Can I transfer the microsoft office files from my xp to my vista via a flash card? Office 2004 is only available to Mac but not to XP.

XP and previous Windows are using Microsoft 2003.

On Vista, Vista is using latest is Office 2007, although you still can use Office 2003.

Mac Office 2004 and Windows Office 2003 has no difference but only one the Information Rights Management (IRM). The rest is equals. The difference is the version, Office 2003 came out before Mac Office 2004.

Unfortunately Office 2004 is not compatible with Office 2007.

You have to wait for the new updates, unknown when to be released.

While planning for some hardware for my company I checked the Hardware Compatibility List on Microsoft Website. (Hardware Compatibility list is made by Windows Quality Laboratory and they test hardware or software in intense situation after that if the hardware is qualified they give certification and logo "Desinged for Windows XP". Microsoft recommends only use products listed in HCL. Otherwise they can cause problem in your Operating System.) In motherboard section for Windows XP, Intel motherboard is not listed! This means that Intel mohterboards are NOT designed for XP and may not work correctly!! Have a doubt on what I'm saying? Reply:it is a good idea to ignore that since in install Windows ask if you still want to install the driver. if you say no then you will not be able to use your computer which is more a Intel computer than a Windows computer. Most of the Compatibility List is based on Microsoft not being responsible for the hardware. if they did not say that, then people would call and say that your software is suppose to make my pc work and you must fix that Intel chipset or motherboard

I dont know why, but my computer doesn't have microsoft word, it only has notepad on it and I have to go all the way to my school and use the computer lab to type word documents. I was wondering if I could type my paper on notepad, save it to a memory stick and take it to school and open it with microsoft word. I know that the format on notepad is different from microsoft word but I figured that maybe I could rearrange it when I get to school.

You may find that WORDPAD is a better choice. You can do more formatting with the text. Also, you can save as a .doc.

WORDPAD should be located in the same Accessories folder with Notepad. If it isn't there you can activate it: C:\Program Files\Accessories\wordpad.exe. If you right click and choose "pin to start menu" you can access it when you click START.

Notepad is the basic word processing program. Wordpad is the next step up in features, and WORD is top of the line.

I think you only need them if you're running software that utilizes it. When I installed TurboTax this year, it told me I needed the .NET Framework so I installed it. I haven't updated it since then.

First of all, repair the installation.

In speaking with my friends, some state they would no longer use Yahoo-related websites if Microsoft succeeded in it's desire to purchase Yahoo. Some simply don't like Microsoft, and others feel that Microsoft would negatively impact how Yahoo sites and services are currently offered - I'm curious whether the average user feels that this would have an impact on their decision to use Yahoo - for searches, mail, answers, etc., or whether it plays no part in their choice to use these services, or simply don't care whether Microsoft controls Yahoo in the future.

Unless the acquisition results in some significantly unfavorable change, I'll stick with Yahoo. Perhaps MSFT can clean up the mess with the Q%26amp;A referees, which are at present a worthless piece of sh-t.

Reply:Not much will change, if anything things would improve more. Microsoft is a giant and so is Google. Yahoo wants much more than 44 billion. Some analysts say roughly around 60 billion. If Microsoft is able to attain Yahoo, then things would get extremely interesting, it would basically be Yahoo (Microsoft) vs. Google. Keep in mind that Microsoft has MSN too and that is a very popular engine as well. Should be interesting, as a user, I use both of them and love both of them.

Reply:Unless you are going to replace your computer with a new one, or do a serious, expensive upgrade, you won't be able to run Vista. I don't know if Office 2007 will run on XP, but I do know it isn't worth the price asked for it.

If you simply have to have a word processor, why not use the OpenOffice suite by Sun Microsystems. It has everything Office does, it's just free, and Office isn't.

Stay with xp

Upgrade to Office 2007 (optional)

Vista is terrible.

The operating system is awkward and slow and the technical help as of yet is very limited.

As for Office 2007, Office 2003 will work just as well however there are some optional features to Office 2007 that to certain users might appeal to.

Reply:The reason your getting that is because of the fact you got the disc from a friend. The disc has a CD-Key/Product-Key that is registered to the computer that has the Windows installed from that specific CD. Because of that, MIcrosoft thinks you stole your copy and will give that error message. Best (and legal) thing to do is to get a new copy of Windows XP.

I have Word XP, and I just looked at the File-%26gt;Open menu item. It does have a file type for Word 6/95, so I think it will read them in just fine. If you then want to save them as Word XP, just do a Save As with the .doc type.

Reply:You should be able to open them in Word XP. Just open the Word program, click on the [File] [Open] menu choices. You should be able to see the file names through the regular menu.

Be aware, if you save them as Word XP, then you or anyone else will not be able to open them in a previous versions. Office programs typically work going forward, i.e., opening older version documents in a newer versions software. However, you cannot typically go backwards.

my only thought is: if you just upgraded your OS why not keep using MS Word. It is so much more powerful!! If you just stopped using your old comp and bought a new one with Vista, uninstall the Office prgm on the old one and install it on the new one. Reply:Look at the bottom of your laptop - if it came with an OS installed as a PACKAGE and not a TRIAL, it should have a serial number which you can use to activate Windows.

There are other ways around this - but this is the LEGAL way. I would not suggest using cracks or activators.

If you really dont have a license code, you can use a program that will NOT activate your Windows, but will STOP WINDOWS from asking you to activate - which I will only tell you if you REALLY dont have a license key.

If you can't find it or the code on the bottom doesn't work, the person who sold it to you put an illegal copy of windows on it. You are either going to have to buy a copy of windows or download a free OS like freespire or ubuntu.

I have a suggestion, you can use your school's Microsoft word. Here's what you do, start doing your work on notepad or wordpad, i think every computer has one. It depends on where you purchased it and probably how.

You do not need to be a business to own/use Mickey Professional. All you need is the cash:))

If you can find out your original purchase info, and you purchased it from someplace other than Microsoft, you might be able to get another key. Again, it depends on where you purchased it.

But, do not worry. Have you heard of Open Office? If you can't get another key, try openoffice.org. It is a FREE suite and works pretty darn good, and the price is right.

Don't bother upgrading your software anyway. Why. There is no cost advantage to upgrade software of this type without demonstrating a cost benefit.

I still use Office 97 with no problem. How many versions do you need to output the same letter or printed page.

I still use Windows 3.1 and a primitive word processor there is little or no difference. Oh yes you can add a picture or draw a line different. Not a big deal. Is that worth two or three hundred dollars?

Worse if you get caught and you are using this for business purposes. The fines and jail terms are significant.

And you cannot update that software with Microsoft or any software with Microsoft. If you have to update your registered operating system they scan your computer before they download updates or fixes. If they find that software instead of the 2003, you're dead meat.

If you have a registered copy of Office 2003 you could apply and get a registered copy from Microsoft downloading directly from them and then you can download any updates.

In my opinion the Xbox 360 is a failure. Microsoft forced them out just to beat PS3. I would have rather waited another year for the Xbox 360 if it wouldn't freeze like crazy then eventually give you the circle of death [when the on/off button turns all red(which means system failure)]. I haven't heard of the PS3's dieing after 48-72 hours of play. Mine has recently died. I was playing a game of guitar hero 2 and the screen froze and i got the circle of death. Basically my hat is off to Sony. They have won the second round between Microsoft. XBOX wins round one, PS3 wins round two. Does anyone else agree with me that Sony overcame microsoft BIG time in this generation of gaming? And just for the record i believe the Nintendo Wii beat both these consoles by FAR.

Indeed the Wii is clearly the best price and performance. But I Personally enjoy the Xbox360 over the PS3 mainly due to Gears of War. In later Xbox360s this problem (circle of death)is pretty much fixed.

I am looking to get Microsoft certified and move into the technology field, but I don't know the best way to go about it. I have realized that I enjoy learning about computers, Windows, and how things work since I just got a new laptop with Vista. I live in Florida and a local college has microsoft and computer courses, but I don't really want to have to wait till the next semester to start. I know you can buy the books and stuff online. I have been to the Microsoft website and I don't even know which program would be best for me. It would be great if someone in the field can give me some advice. I would appreciate it very much. Thanks.

Microsoft Certification?
Sounds like you might like the Microsoft A+ Certification. This will teach you how to fix/upgrade computers. This is usually a good Cert to start with and will help you build the groundwork for other certifications. Then you can move up to Net+ which will teach you networking skills.

Microsoft Office Specialist is certified in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and/or Outlook. Those are things you can buy books for and learn on your own, or take a class. There are many testing sites, the Microsoft website can direct you to a testing site. They will probably charge you for the tests. We pay about $60 per test, there is one for each software and expert level tests for Word and Excel. The Access one and the expert ones are pretty difficult.

There are many other certifications. It just depends on your interests. Database Management, networking, security, hardware and software management, basic technician, etc.

Hundreds of books are out there to help you learn these things without classes. They usually have the Microsoft logo telling you that they prepare you for a specific test.

My mom just got her computer (Fujistu Notebook). It's the one that you can write on with the tablet pen. There DOES have Microsoft Office, but when you press on it, the only things you can go on is:

Lanuage Settings, Save my Settings, and Application Recovery. Is there anyway to get the 2003 Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel and all those on my mom's computer? Or any Microsoft Office that is the latest one (not counting the 2007 one since you have to do something) for free?

Microsoft Office Document Image Writer?

My question was "I need instructions on how to add "microsoft office document image writer", I don't know how to find the driver and then after i install it, how do I make it show up in the printers folder?"

I got an answer that worked until step 8 because the computer doesn't have a Microsoft Document imaging writer port.

For a little more history, I bought the PC about a month ago and replaced the OS with Microsoft XP Small Business, but I think the driver and or port didn't get put back on. Sound right? Is there anything I can do?

OK - you'll first need to make clear which version of Office you are using (2003 or the 2007 beta). If you are using the 2003, you may need to download and install the upgrade patch. If using the 2007 beta, it should install automatically...I know I didn't have to do anything special to get the Image Writer myself - it simply appeared after installing MS Office.

My suggestion would be, if you do not have the virtual device showing, try doing a "repair install" of office, and make sure you have all the "office tools" selected. That should restore it for you...

Just had a look on the MS Office site, and definitely should install automatically with any version of Office which has the Document Imaging bundled in, so long as this tool was selected during install. So the repair install sounds the way to go

The Intel Mac Mini, iMac, MacBook, and MacBook Pro all have the capability to run Windows XP. They use a program called Boot Camp and it partitions the hard drive to use one for OSX and one for WXP. The upcoming Mac OS 10.5 (leopard) will have this program built in and will be capable of running Windows Vista when it finally arrives. I own a PowerBook and I love the Mac OS, as a much more stable OS. However, running WXP on a Mac, you are susceptible to all viruses that affect Windows machines. How these affect the OSX partition is unknown. Macs are worth the money, if you use it to its potential. Cheers.

I have both Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my computer. When I did this I have noticed that anytime I click on a pull-down menu it takes several minutes to do this. I have tried rebooting my machine and it's a persistent problem. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? What did you too to remedy to problem?

Microsoft Word Question: How do I draw a circle AROUND a picture w/o the circle center blocking out the pic?

I've used the Drawing Toolbar to create a circle but I can't figure how to cut out the center white part of the circle so that when I layer it on top of a square picture, it does not block out the picture underneath it.

If I could figure how to CUT pictures in Microsoft Word in oval or circular patterns, I could solve this problem. If you know how to cut out a picture in Microsoft Word in a circle, please tell me how to here as that would solve the problem. However, to my knowledge, one can only cut and crop pictures in Microsoft Word in straight edge patterns, limiting pictures to only rectangles and squares but not circles.

You can't crop into an oval or circular shape, but you can draw an oval or circle autoshape and then fill the autoshape with your picture by right-clicking on the autoshape and left-clicking on the Colors and Lines tab | Fill Effects.

Reply:To get rid of the white inside the cirkel go to the bottom of the page. Click on the figure to the right of Clipart and choose No filling.

I don´t think you can cut out pictures in Word. For that you need a graphic program.

I remember the not so far away time when Microsoft miserly offered only 1.6 mega of email storage for his free registered costumers.Actually they claimed to offer 2 mega but nobody could actually reach up to 2 mega.

The result is that if you forgot to delete some old junk emails, nobody could reach you.After a certain period of not using your hotmail, they just delete all your contacts acquired with the years.You loose all your recent or old email altogether.

Yahoo was far less richer than Microsoft but still provide 6 meg of free storage space and rarely erase your contacts if you a regular singnin account holder.With Yahoo I was able to get in contact with a long time Girlfriend.I appreciate the gesture of yahoo so much that I subscribed to their long distance service and even their DSL internet at one time.I use yahoo for free for so long time that,by gratitude, I decided to pay in one of my oldest account.Now that they are being acquired by Microsoft,I feel a shiver down my spine.

Put simply - you can't. It is possible to scan the document as text to import into Word, but this is hit and miss. You will save more time just typing the words into Microsoft Word. You can insert a picture into the Word document - but I have a feeling this isn't what you want to do.
Reply:A block of text which is contained within an image cannot easily be converted into text that can be edited.

There is software out there that can convert data from an image file into a Word or Excel document. ReadIrus or Smart PDF creator are two such programs that I've used. However, they often don't convert the image accurately.

Think of it as a picture that you want to turn into words. We see the text as letters and words, but to the PC it is still just an image.

Reply:You cannot convert it to Word. Your best bet is to isolate the picture you want and save it. Then do INSERT\PICTURE FROM FILE. After you position the picture you can add the text you want.

To position the picture, right click on it and choose FORMAT PICTURE. Click the '"layout" tab and choose an option. Using "Tight" or "In front of Text" are the easiest with which to work.

Microsoft Office Excel?

I'm running Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 and when I open an Excel spreadsheet it always pops up a window like you're using the program for the first time which first says "Please wait while Setup prepares the necessary files..." then quickly says "Configuring Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007..." This process takes about a minute or two to complete every time I open an .XLS document from the explorer. It doesn't happen with Microsoft Word, only Excel.

Anybody know why this might be happening and what I can do about it?

I just downloaded MSN Messenger 7.0 for MacOS. My opinion is that the 2 3rd party clients I use (Adium and Mercury) are better quality in terms of features, style (looks) and performance.

Should Microsoft continue development of MSN for MacOS, or should they actively tell users to download 3rd party clients?

While it's not going to happen I'd love to see Microsoft open up the protocol so that 3rd party developers can make better quality clients for MacOS and Linux. Then Microsoft can focus on its core paying customers (Windows users), and users of alternative OS' will get better quality products than Microsoft is currently giving them without having to hack the MSN protocol.

well my class is doing a project and i have a memory stick to save everything on. in school, the computers have Microsoft Word and at home i have Microsoft Works but i can go into that and click on Word processor. if i save everything on my memory stick at school from microsoft word, can i open it at home? cuzz say i dont have powerpoint (which i dont), i can save it from the computers at school on to my flash drive but i cant open it at home since i dont have power point so its pretty much the same thing i just want to know.

Completely different programs. If you want to use them both, you need to save your documents in a format that is supported by both. Rich Text Format (.rtf) will work in both (and in lots of other programs), but you'll have limited formatting options.

When you save your file, go to File %26gt; Save As. Then change the Format menu to RTF before clicking OK.
Reply:Word and the Works word processor by default, save files under different file extensions. So if you want to work with both word processors, you must save the file under an extension that both will recognize. I believe both will work with (.rtf).

You can purchase a "Student/Teacher version of Microsoft Office, which contains Word" for about $130.

OpenOffice is a free 'office suite' program that is much like MS Office.

I went to the Windows Update website to see if there were any new updates. I saw this "new" thing called Microsoft Update and I installed the ActiveX control. Now in my start menu below windows update there is also Microsoft update. When I check for automatic updates, it always goes to Microsoft updates!!

Can I still get Automatic Updates? Or is the Microsoft Updates the same thing plus a bit more or just the same thing as Automatic Updates?

It's OK, the only difference between "Microsoft" updates and "Windows" updates is that Windows updates only offers updates for Windows, while Microsoft Updates offers updates for all Microsoft software (Windows, Office, and others). You are not missing any updates by using Microsoft updates, you are actually being offered updates you previously had no idea about for other Microsoft software.
Reply:The old Windows Update can only be used by Windows 2000 SP3 and older versions of Windows as far back as Windows 98.

Windows 2000 SP4 and newer redirects http://windowsupdate.com to http://update.microsoft.com -- Windows Update version 6 AKA Microsoft Update.

Microsoft Update is an enhancement where you may find updates not only for Windows OS but also for other MS products such as Office, SQL Server, Exchange and etc.

Back to the Question will we see a microsoft handheld a while back i saw an article that said there would be a microsoft hand held (this was back in like 2006 the ps3 hype was up!!!) and i-pod killer a little later we see The Drumroll. . . Zune it is a ummm mp3 player but by no means is it a I-pod killer (at least not yet) I love Apple and apple products i mean weve see everything from wonderful computers, to i-pods and lately I-Phones.

The Zune Mp3 player is growing and by growing i mean there geting there store, there I-Tunes i mean but this is not what i expetected i expetect a game system i would think that microsoft would fallow suit after Sony (with it's PSP) and Nintendo (With it's Nintendo DS) Im not saying that microsoft copies but i thought we would see Continued

When a new version of Mac OS X is released, you won't need to scramble to purchase upgrades in order to run it. (Leave that to the Vista adopters.)

Crashing. It doesn't happen. I'm not saying Mac OS X is absolutely perfect, but it's damn close. Most problems are easily fixed within minutes. Macs don't require the constant maintenance needed by PCs.

Value. When all of these things add up, you'll actually be saving money, as well as time, in the long run. You'll find yourself actually doing more on a Mac. Things you never thought of doing on a PC.

Hackers design viruses for Windows-based machines because they are the most widely used software, and are the OS for nearly ALL servers. There have been virii tailored to Macs, but their smaller footprint in the computer community makes them less known.

Mac's OS was stolen from Xerox in the 70s. So was Windows 3.1.

Mac still uses that silly single button mouse as a default, not to mention those keyboards that look like they weren't finished.

Did I mention that Macs cost twice as much?

While WinTel configurations may not be perfect, they are preferable to Macs. Then again, I'm in business, not in graphics design.

I don't care about frippery such as iPods and the like. Computers are tools, and damned good ones, not toys.

Hey, I currently have Microsoft Word 2003 installed on my PC and I would like to know how one updates to 2007? Does it involve purchasing the 2007 edition which I am inclinded to believe or can I simply update my exisiting Microsoft 2003 Office to 2007 without additional cost? If so where can I go to do this as so far on the Microsoft site I have met with no success but rather only payment plans for Office 2007

This is a lot cheaper than buying the full package. You need to buy the upgrade version. It doesn't cost very much. This applies to all software installed in your computer. Reply:Gathering the information from the way you asked this question, i come to two conclusions. You know nothing about this software package in which case, Microsoft Office 2003 would do sufficiently well for the majority of things that one would do with it. Upgrading it would be a waste of money, unless ofcourse you have a lot of money to spend...in which case, why would you upgrade anyhow rather than buying new! Analogy: buying a Lamborghini / Ferrarri when you travel only 2 km a day. Second conclusion is that you are asking just for the sake of testing out this site and the genuinity of the people who takes the time to answer the questions. I got a new computer about a year ago, and with it of course came microsoft office. well, i wasn't needing the program at that point, so i kept the disc and hrew away the box.

that had the activation key on it.

so now i'm sitting here with no way to register my copy of Office 2003, and i called Microsoft for help, but they said i was supposed to call HP. They said to call microsoft....AHHH! i need help. any idea what i should do?!?!?

Reply:If the software came with your computer, it is considered to be OEM and Microsoft will refuse to assist. If HP can't provide the key for you, you should find out if it is installed on the restore disk with the key in it. If it is, you may be able to restore it from there.

Why should the EU tell me that I cannot have Internet explorer on my Microsoft programs because some other company might whinge, when I buy a program I want everything on it not a watered down version to keep some left EU loving pillock happy.

The original Commission ruling basically recognises Microsoft's dominance in the operating system market and finds that Microsoft's other programs, Internet Explorer, Media Player, etc, have an uncompetitive advantage being added to the operating system automatically.

Microsoft 2007 is the Office package that Microsoft Inc. launched for its Windows Operating System Users.

It does have a host of good benefits especially with a new look.

The functionality it provides are quite better than the previous versions of Office Package that Microsoft Inc. launched.

You will have to uninstall the previous version of Office Package before installing the new version of Office Package for a smooth performance.

The latest softwares of Microsoft requires you to have a computer with a minimum 512MB RAM. If you have a RAM that satisfies this requirement, then go ahead and enjoy the best of Microsoft 2007.

Reply:Office 2007 is kinda part of tghe Vista set. Vista requires alot more power than any previous Windows release. To see if your PC is Compliant and Vista ready, you can visit microsft.com, they can scan your PC again, but this time they will tell you to either trash that one and buy a new PC or yours will handle it, sorta.
Reply:You may need to reword your question. I'm not aware of any software called Microsoft 2007. If you're talking about upgrading from XP to Vista, then I'd wait till Microsoft works out the kinks and issues a few patches / service packs. It comes out in Jan or Feb, I'd wait a year.

Reply:All new PC's only comes with the windows. You can buy additional software to suit your needs. What you are looking for is an office suite software to install in your computer. The office suite is a CD with all office programs on it. For example Microsoft word, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel to name a few. When I bought my first computer like you I expected everything on it, but I didn't know at the time you had to buy extra programs yourself. MS Database isn't the same, Access is a different program and usually comes in the Office Professional version.

I have a laptop with the new Windows Vista on it. Now I'd like to install Microsoft Office on it. Can I install Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on that computer or will it not work?

If not, what can I do? Is there a special Word for Vista?

And how many does a Microsoft Office thingie cost?

Microsoft Word on Vista?
I have a Windows Vista, and I believe the newest (2007) version of Microsoft Office is on it, and it should work with older versions.

However, if it is 7 years or older, it will most likely not work. I think Vista does not accept old programs or hardware, such as the scanner that I have.

A 2003 program should work fine, although just in case, try setting a restoration date to when you can reset your computer to if anything goes wrong.

All in all, it should all be fine.
