Microsoft Cash Promotion Award?

Yesterday (Aug 1, 2007), I received an email telling me that I won 500,000 GBP from Microsoft Windows INC.





It's from:


"MICROSOFT CASH PROMOTION AWARD" %26lt;resource_noticedesk29@hotmail.co.uk%26gt;





It says that:


Microsoft Windows,collects all the email addresses of the people that are active online, and only select five people every Month as winners through electronic balloting System without the winner applying.





It asks me to fill the following form:


Full Name:


Sex:


Marital Status:


Country:


Contact Address:


Age:


Telephone Number:


Occupation:


Amount won:


Batch Number:


Reference Number:


Winning Number:


Valid Identification for payment purpose i.e International passport or drivers license(scaned copy)





Then contact:

I think its just a scam. What's your opinion?

No major organisation will ever ask you to give identification or other personal details by email. It's a phishing scam with the intention of ripping you off! The guy's email address is a dead give-away! No way would Microsoft ever use a yahoo address,


Delete it.
Reply:Don't give any information to yourself. Microsoft doesn't ask question like this. And try to think If 1billion people give Microsoft their information and get paid, How much does Microsoft will loose. Try to think

Reply:Its good to hear from you that you think its as a scam but i just want to tell you that it is a scam and these types of mails are sending my some vulnerable and mailicious coders normally we define them as hackers/ crackers/ etc....





Regarding this mail i just want to tell you that what the main purpose of sending of these types of mails..... the main purpose of sending these types of mails is that the coders (hackers) mainly want to transfer account or money from one place to another , the mail indicates the fields for normal user to be field such as Name, Address, Location etc....


if a user fulfill the information which is asked in the mail, then it is received by hackers and as they start transfering the money, they required the information to be passed in the form and unfortunately they use your name and location etc... you send to the respective mail addresses... and according to cyber laws you were the cyber criminal .... and this is what we dont want to be.... in our whole life....





So Kindly delete as you receive such type of mails or same ... as they are scams.. but if you think that it should be the nice thing as you are having lottery or something like that then please mail to ambessies or high commissions and let them know about what it is... they will tell you....

Reply:This is std Information gathering technique by Phishing sites ....Dont fall in to this trap...dont even open the email with Script/Actiex Enabled....if u are using outlook make sure u disable Activex execution.
Reply:It's a phishing scam,there is no such company as Microsoft Windows INC,Windows is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation,Microsoft never ask for personal details in emails and they don't,to my knowledge use either Hotmail or Yahoo,It's a scam,delete the email and forget about these losers.
