Microsoft kept my Office CD’s !!!?

I am a poor college student. I purchased Microsoft Office, which I could barely afford. I bought it from a website that is now gone. One day when I attempted to do an online update, it said that my copy was un-Authentic and that I needed to send my CD’s to Microsoft in exchange for an Authentic copy, for free. So I send this to them along with my sales receipt. A few months later, I receive a letter from Microsoft saying that they decided to keep my CD’s, not replace them with new ones, that I should purchase a new one, and that they appreciate my assistance in helping to stop software piracy. Well now I am out lots of money, am out this software, and Microsoft is being arrogant. I am completely lost on this issue. What in the world can I do? It was always my intention to be honest and pay for this software, but Bill Gate's company doesn't seem to care about that.

But I would tell you to download and use Openoffice which is as good as microsoft products and its free.

Download OpenOffice from www.openoffice.org.


Imports and writes DOC-files (and excell files and powerpoint), but also supports the OpenDocument fileformat.


It generates PDFs from your documents out of the box (no extra software needed), and it is both free and legal.





Don't forget to tell Microsoft that you went for another, cheaper office suite.
Reply:Since you're a college student, you may be able to take advantage of this. Most colleges and universities partner with software companies (usually Adobe and Microsoft) to allow students to buy their software at steep discounts. My university offers MS Office to faculty, students and staff for around $25.00. Check with the staff at the campus computer lab or the IT department to see if your school offers this and how to get it.
