Microsoft Problem!?
I seem to remember having the same problem once, it was something to do with the windows updater software, a small program from windows that lets you get stuff there. Also there is a program for installation that if you don't have it properly installed, windows won't let you download or update your computer. My advice would be for you to go to the microsoft website and check out the forums there, I found the cure for my problem and it was quite complicated. I had to uninstall manually these program with a removal tool, fiddle with the registry files and other stuff not recommended for users who have real important stuff to lose on their computers and/or don't really know how to or are not confident with altering the windows registry file. It's also possible you've got an angry anti virus program running that isn't windows friendly. I don't really know anything at all about firefox, I've never used that program.
Reply:The computer administrator has blocked access to certain websites. You can use a proxy server to get around that, or ask them to unblock port 80, which is restricted/limited by a software or hardware firewall.
Reply:YOU CANT UPDATE FROM FF

YOU MUST USE IE 6.0 OR HIGHER

FROM THE START MENU IS THE BEST WAY
